Third Night of Rioting, Looting Leads to 2 Dead, 1 Injured in Kenosha, WI

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel is reporting that three people had been shot last night and 2 people died as a result of riots continuing in Kenosha, Wisconsin after a police-involved shooting on Sunday afternoon. Kenosha Police authorities were looking for a man armed with a long gun.

According to the report, "Earlier Wednesday, Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that one victim had been shot in the head and another in the chest late Tuesday, just before midnight. Beth didn’t know where the other person was shot, but video posted on social media showed someone had been shot in the arm".

This was the third night of rioting, looting, and the burning and destruction of businesses since the shooting of Jacob Blake on Sunday. Protests turned violent quickly and were progressively getting more and more violent with Kenosha Police actively asking the public to stay home.

The Kenosha Police Department issued a curfew for 8 pm last night and followed it up with a warning.

Rioters defied the curfew and took to the streets. The Daily Caller’s Richie McGinniss who was in the vicinity of the shooting and carried one victim to a car with an apparent head wound and transported them to the hospital. McGinniss was seen on video running to help the man after being shot.

In another incident, a video shows a man running and is pushed to the ground by another man. Both men were armed. When the man on the ground saw several people approaching him he opened fire into the crowd. Police showed up within a 1 minute of the shooting.

The Kenosha Police Department issued a statement via Twitter, "On August 24, 2020, at about 11:45 pm Kenosha Police, along with assisting agencies, responded to the area of 63rd Street and Sheridan Road for reports of shots being fired and multiple gunshot victims.

The shooting resulted in two fatalities and a third gunshot victim was transported to a hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooting investigation is active and ongoing. No further details regarding the shooting will be released at this time. The names, ages, and cities of residence for the victims were still being determined.

Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth said in an interview, "Investigators were looking into whether the shooting unfolded as a result of a conflict that broke out between demonstrators and “self-styled militias guarding a gas station.

Fox News reported, "Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers, a Democrat, had called for calm earlier Tuesday, while also declaring a state of emergency under which he doubled the National Guard deployment in Kenosha from 125 to 250. The night before, crowds destroyed dozens of buildings and set more than 30 fires in the city’s downtown."

We cannot allow the cycle of systemic racism and injustice to continue,” said Evers, who has been facing mounting pressure from Republicans over his handling of the unrest. “We also cannot continue going down this path of damage and destruction.”

Today, the Kenosha County Board has requested 1,500 National Guard troops, in a letter Wednesday, with police powers to be sent to Kenosha County. According to The Hill, the members wrote on behalf of the county board, stating that the “county is in a state of emergency” and the extra law enforcement is needed to “preserve and save” the region.

“Our county is under attack,” the board wrote in the letter. “Our businesses are under attack. Our homes are under attack. Our local law enforcement agencies need additional support to help bring civility back to our community.”

President Trump Tweeted he will be sending National Guard Troops to Kenosha to restore Law and Order.
