Dear Democrats: Put Up or Shut Up

If the Democrats would like to keep voters, they might try being intellectually honest. These days, there are an increasing number of people who used to call themselves Democrats that have left the party. One of the main reasons? Empty and hateful rhetoric coming from Democratic leaders. I strongly recommend people across the entire political spectrum read Karlyn Borysenko’s #WalkAway story as just one example.

Much of what we hear in the news these days are left-of-center leaders making empty accusations accompanied by vacuous, worn-out platitudes. Essentially, these are attempts to generate emotional responses in middle America and woo people to vote against President Trump. The problem? Middle Americans are seeing through it.

Consider the comments from a black American woman, standing in line to attend a Trump rally:

“Growing up black in America, you’re taught that you’re just supposed to be a Democrat. So, one day I asked myself, “Why am I Democrat?” And so, I did the research of, 'Why am I Democrat?' [I] looked up what the Democrats were about, and then I did research about [what] the Republicans were about, and I realized that I’ve never been a Democrat.

“Anything that I stand for – everything I was raised on – my beliefs, my thoughts, it’s all sourced to the Republican Party. Then I was able to get rid of my TDS – my Trump Derangement Syndrome – and I’m going to give him a chance.

Despite stories like these, Democratic leaders double down. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke at a press conference the day after President Trump’s State of the Union speech. After Pelosi’s prepared remarks, a reporter asked if she intended on inviting Trump to deliver next year’s State of the Union address.

Pelosi appeared quite tense and angry as she responded. What follows are specific examples of what I stated above: empty accusations and vacuous, worn-out platitudes. Lest anyone accuse me of taking Pelosi’s remarks out of context, people are free to compare the text.

PELOSI: Next year, we will have a new President of the United States. That is an absolute imperative for our country, for our Constitution. For the land that we love, from sea to shining sea, which he degrades almost every day, but several times a week; for who we are as a people, a nation of immigrants, unless you're blessed to be born a native American; a nation who he denigrates, and our values, which he just -- disloyal to the Constitution, degrades the environment, denigrates who we are as a people, and undervalues who we are as a great country that is a good -- that is a good country, where people care about each other and where there is a sense of community.

Madam Speaker, can you please tell us specifically how Trump “degrades who we are as a people”? If he does it several times a week, can you provide us some evidence?

By the way, please know that the anger in your voice does not and will not intimidate me; I simply want to hear you provide objective facts.

Also, can you please tell us how Trump denigrates our values? And how – specifically – he is disloyal to the Constitution? Our Constitution was written with the idea of letting people have as much freedom as possible and limiting government as much as possible. Trump is moving to give people more freedom. The Democrats are seeking to remove freedoms as well as take from those who “have” and give it to those who “have not.”

Furthermore, can you also explain how Trump degrades the environment, or were you merely attempting to trigger environmentalists?

You continue:

PELOSI: “I have tried to be gracious with him, I'm always dignified.”

Tearing up his speech was dignified?

PELOSI: “Now all presidents have guests. Constant guests? That was not State of the Union. That was a state – his state of mind. We were at the State of the Union, where are we – where are we going and the rest. Not, let me just show you how many guests I can draw.”

Trump’s 11 guests this year were too many for you? Why are you making a big deal out of 11 guests this year when Trump’s SOTU guest count is going down? According to CNN, Trump had 15 SOTU guests in 2018 and 13 guests in 2019. I didn’t hear of you having a problem with Mr. Obama’s 23 SOTU guests in 2016 or Obama’s 23 guests in 2015. Why the gripe now about only 11 guests?

Also, I have a question regarding your comments about Trump honoring Rush Limbaugh. You said,

PELOSI:  “Quite frankly when he started talking about someone with stage four cancer -- all of that, I thought he was – I don't know which stage John Lewis's cancer is at, but when he started talking about someone with cancer, we thought he was going to talk about John Lewis. A hero in our country? Come on!”

Later in your comments to the gathered press, you said you are a speed reader and saw [Trump’s speech] was a “compilation of falsehoods.”

Question: If you used speed reading to read ahead, how could you have been startled when Trump started talking about Rush Limbaugh? Either you are lying that you were startled, or you are lying that you read ahead though the speech using “speed reading.” Which is it?

Also Madam Speaker, many patriots find it curious that suddenly, after years of moving our country away from the principles of our Founders, you're now using many patriotic phrases. For example, at the beginning of your response you said, “…for our country, for our Constitution. For the land that we love, from sea to shining sea…”

Later, in your response, you even said, “E pluribus unum. From many, one.” If you were a bit younger, it’s possible you might have broken into a James Cagney dance and sung “Yankee Doodle Dandy.”

People in the #WalkAway movement and others have noticed you ramped up the use of such phrases since impeachment proceedings began. You might be fooling some, but as I said, I personally know lifelong Democrats who see through your pandering and they are walking away.

CNN’s Jim Acosta is guilty, too

In addition to Speaker Pelosi making accusations without proof, CNN’s Jim Acosta often does the same. We found him floundering in this boat on the night of the SOTU. When asked about Trump awarding Rush Limbaugh the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Acosta said, “[Trump] was trying to make appeals to the African American community. It can’t be forgotten that he was awarding the Medal of Freedom to Rush Limbaugh, who has a history of making derogatory comments about African Americans. So, I think, you, overall, it’s a wash.”

Sorry, Jim, but you burped up some fake news. James Golden, better known to Rush’s listeners as Bo Snerdly, responded on Twitter to your comment, saying, “I just saw the footage from CNN’s Jim Acosta saying Rush has a ‘history’ of saying disparaging things about African Americans. I have been in the studio with Rush for 30 years. I would like to formally challenge CNN and @Acosta to provide the list.”

For those that don't know, James Golden is black.

The world is waiting, Mr. Acosta. Your vacuous accusations are echoing empty through the airwaves over America, and James Golden is waiting for you to substantiate your claims.

AOC is in the same boat

The group Occupy Democrats posted Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s video in which she stated her opposition to Limbaugh receiving the award. She said, “The Presidential Medal of Freedom is an extraordinarily sacred award. We’re talking about putting someone on the same level as Rosa Parks, in terms of their contributions to American progress.”

She then went to say Rush Limbaugh was “a virulent racist.”

I’m guessing James Golden has the same challenge for AOC as he does for Mr. Acosta. But Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, Barack Obama awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Ellen DeGeneres, Robert De Niro, and Tom Hanks. Do you think those personalities were on the same level as Rosa Parks for their “contributions to American progress?”

Put Up or Shut up

To the majority of Democrat leaders and their dutiful public relations department (also known as the legacy media), I think I speak for many patriots when I say it’s time to put up or shut up. If you’re going to make accusations, you need evidence. The empty and hateful rhetoric and the vacuous, worn-out platitudes do nothing to further a debate of issues for how to move our country forward.

As Karlyn Borysenko says in her #WalkAway story, “If we’re going to heal the country, we have to start taking steps towards one another rather than away.” She also says,

I think the Democrats have an ass-kicking coming to them in November, and I think most of them will be utterly shocked when it happens because they’re existing in an echo chamber that is not reflective of the broader reality. I hope it’s a wake-up call and causes them to take a long look in the mirror and really ask themselves how they got here. Maybe then they’ll start listening. I tend to doubt it, but I can hope.”
