Colorado bill that would have banned the purchase, sale, and transfer of a broad swath of semiautomatic firearms, defined in the measure as assault weapons, will be shelved at the request of one of its main sponsors. Sen. Julie Gonzales, a Denver Democrat and one of the lead sponsors of House Bill 1292, announced Monday that she would ask for the measure to be killed Tuesday in the Senate State, Military, and Veterans Affairs Committee. “After thoughtful conversations with my Senate colleagues, I decided that more conversations need to take place outside of the pressure cooker of the Capitol during the last weeks of the legislative session,” Gonzales said in a written statement. “In that spirit, I look forward to renewing and continuing those discussions over the interim.”

#9 Social Security Trust Fund to Be Exhausted by 2035 and Medicare in 2036, Trustees Project - Zachary Halaschak for Washington Examiner and Matthew Milsap on X

The Medicare trust fund will be exhausted in 2036, and the combined Social Security trust fund will become exhausted in 2035, the programs’ trustees projected on Monday. The report illustrates the long-term problems facing the entitlement programs, on which tens of millions of people rely. Nevertheless, it contained good news in that the deadlines have been moved back a bit from last year’s projections.  The extended timeline gives a bit more breathing room to Congress, where the looming depletion of the trust fund has become a top political issue. Both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump have vowed not to cut the popular entitlement benefits for seniors. Still, the fact that the dates are still just over a decade away is another reminder of the fiscal cliffs that are looming large and the need for lawmakers to craft a plan to keep the programs solvent...

#8 Nolte: ‘Fall Guy’ Launches Summer Slump, YTD Box Office Down 43 Percent - John Nolte for Breitbart and Matt Kalinowski on X

The Fall Guy stumbled out of the weekend box office well below expectations for the start of the summer movie-going season. This drove the year-to-date box office down 43 percent compared to 2019. Worse case projections had Fall Guy opening at $30 million. Best case predicted as high as $40 million. Nope — $28.5 million. Worldwide, it grossed just $65.4 million. Break-even is likely around $450 million, and there is zero chance of that.  Wait till you hear what came in second place at this weekend’s box office. But first… Compared to last year’s disappointing box office performance, 2024 is down 22 percent...

#6 To Confirm Voters’ U.S. Citizenship, States Could Easily Check DMV Data - Erin Marie Joyce for The Federalist

The greatest border crisis in U.S. history grinds on, with an estimated 8 to 10 million illegal foreign nationals entering the country since Joe Biden became president in 2021 and stopped enforcing border security. As hundreds of thousands are offered federal benefits, asylum, or Social Security numbers for work permits, what are the chances they will flow onto voter rolls illegally ahead of the 2024 election? An accountant’s answer might apply: Highly likely; it also depends...

The researchers claim that for two and a half years now, groups such as APT28, REF2924, Red Stinger, Flea, APT29, and Oilrig have been using this technique to remain out of sight. Among the targets is an unnamed organization from Ukraine, which was infected by a previously unknown malware variant dubbed BirdyClient...

Bernie Sanders has just announced that he is running for another term in the U.S. Senate. Sanders is 82 years old and this would be his fourth term. Does he need another house? Like many people in DC, Bernie is addicted to the power of his position and will not let it go in order for a new generation of lawmakers to step in and serve. These people all seem to want to go out the way Dianne Feinstein did, voting from her deathbed.
